Standardize verification methods for credentialing audits
Does your organization conduct audits to assess the accuracy and efficiency of the current credentialing process? Perhaps you have already begun to use credentialing audits with the goals of decreasing liability risk, monitoring compliance, and improving the overall quality and safety of care provided.
Regardless of whether your facility performs audits, it's wise to take inventory of the methods currently being to verify practitioners' credentials.
One internal requirement your organization might consider is ensuring that the medical staff office or credentialing department checks a practitioner's application within a specified time frame to ensure that it is complete. This requirement might be seen as a way to signal that the verification process can commence, and would commonly be found in the facility's credentialing policies and procedures.
Note: Subscribers to the 2007 Credentialing and Privileging Desktop Reference receive access to a unique Greeley Company tool that is helpful in organizing and standardizing specific requirements related to credentialing verification methods. The tool is found on the "Verification Request Forms" tab of the CPDR.
