Q&A: Is a physician entitled to a fair hearing when his or her privileges are not renewed at reappointment?

A: Fair hearings are held if the medical executive committee or hospital board takes action to deny a practitioner's request for privileges or to revoke privileges due to concerns about performance. Hearings are not designed for instances in which a practitioner's privileges have expired and are not renewed due to the absence of recent, relevant clinical experience.
